ROLE
Carpenter/Scenic Painter
Year
As a scenic carpenter and painter on SCAD’s production of Little Shop of Horrors, I contributed to the build, finish and strike within a nine-week production schedule. The design centered on Skid Row and was anchored by Mushnik’s Flower Shop—a practical revolving set that transitioned between exterior streetscape and interior playing space to support the show’s evolving narrative.
I assisted in constructing and installing key scenic elements, including the storefront unit, large-scale signage and brick paneling while ensuring structural integrity and alignment with stage blocking. My scenic painting focused on distressing and aging surfaces through layered treatments to create a gritty, urban texture that grounded the world of the play.
I also contributed to fabricating the Audrey II puppets through sculpting, paint finishes and basic rigging to support the plant’s growth and transformation to life. This experience strengthened my understanding of theatrical build practices, material finishes and how scenic environments work in tandem with performance, lighting, and storytelling.
