ROLE
Carpenter/Scenic Painter
Year
As a scenic carpenter and painter on SCAD’s The Drowsy Chaperone, I supported the build, scenic finish, and strike of the production. Set within a stylized 1920s apartment, the design blended theatrical spectacle with intimate interior detailing through layered textures and large-scale comedic scenic elements. My carpentry work included leading the construction of a 20’ x 20’ fly wall and fabricating custom rattan furniture pieces used throughout the show.
On the scenic side, I contributed to the hand-painted parquet flooring treatment, faux brick finishes, and stained-glass scenic elements that helped establish the show’s heightened visual language. I also assisted with large transformable scenic pieces and decorative props that supported the production’s fast-paced transitions and physical comedy. Working on this production strengthened my understanding of theatrical illusion, scenic storytelling, and how design can amplify movement, humor, and audience immersion.
